Vehicle/Engine Control

RDS has significant experience in providing monitors/controls for all types of specialist vehicles and machinery using modern diesel engines.

The company's instruments can be used to monitor/control the functionality of stand-alone vehicles plus additional functions that may be fitted i.e. monitor/control a sprayer fitted to a self-propelled vehicle.

Having all this information/control in one instrument maximises the space within the operator's environment and ensures that only relevant information is seen during operation, meaning the operator can concentrate on maximising machine productivity.

Integrating all the monitoring/control into one instrument and sharing data between functions can also enable the vehicle/machine performance to be increased and thus further gains in productivity to be made.

The instrument can also record a variety of data.  For the user this helps with managing productivity etc, and for the vehicle/machinery manufacturer it increases the knowledge on how the equipment has been used.

Examples of such Vehicle & Engine Control applications are:

  • A simple monitoring instrument for the operator of the vehicle to display forward speed.  The display will also record distance/area to inform of productivity.
  • A comprehensive monitor/control instrument for the starting/stopping and monitoring of a diesel engine on a stationary application.  The instrument also monitors additional sensors and it automatically controls to ensure the machine is operated to provide maximum performance and productivity.  Should a fault occur with the engine i.e. low oil pressure, the instrument will automatically turn the engine off to avoid damage.
  • A sophisticated instrument that communicates by CAN-BUS with both engine and transmission ECU's.  The current operating parameters are displayed and should an error occur this is shown to the operator and if necessary action taken automatically.  Data is recorded and can be reviewed by technicians for fault diagnosis or warranty purposes i.e. service dates, time operated with low oil pressure warning active etc.

Irrespective of the type of vehicle/machinery, RDS has considerable experience and is very capable in the task of 'Vehicle & Engine Control'.
