From its origins in the late 60's, when RDS pioneered the use of electronics for agriculture with the introduction of the grain loss monitor for combine harvesters, the company has expanded its activities into many other sectors of mobile machinery. From those 'early days', RDS has remained a part of the explosive growth in the application of electronics to mobile machinery. With modern day machines, it is increasingly the electronics which enables machinery manufacturers to differentiate their machines from those of their competitors.
RDS supplies over 100 Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) world-wide with Custom Solutions, as well as supplying standard 'retro-fit' products through a network of specialist independent distributors in over 20 countries.
The company has a large Engineering department responsible for product design maintenance and new product development. More than 10% of the company's turnover is reinvested in research and development to ensure the company and its products are at the forefront of industries requirements. A strong emphasis is always being placed on practical, 'user friendly' solutions to customer requirements, rather than employing new technology just because it is available.
From being solely in the agricultural sector, over recent years RDS has also successfully diversified into the construction and municipal vehicle sector, where customer requirements are often similar.
RDS manufactures a number of core products. By using different software, sensors and front panel overlays we can economically address a wide variety of customer/application requirements.
Apart from a comprehensive range of instrumentation which includes everything from simple speed/area/distance meters to complex on-board weighing systems, RDS has established itself as one of the leading manufacturers of Precision Farming systems. The company is also an active member of BSI AGE 31 and ISO/TC 23 standards committees and is investing in development of technology for ISO 11783 to ensure that should this standard become widely adopted, RDS products will be compatible.
RDS was founded in 1969 by Jim Brown, who gradually retired from the company during the 90's and who passed away in 2001. A strong and long established management team is in place to ensure that RDS will continue to go from strength to strength. RDS is a privately owned company employing a staff of 70 at its headquarters in the heart of the scenic Cotswold region of the UK.
